This was my fifth science fair! Unfortunately, it was also the last science fair of my high school career (which was bittersweet to realize). For this year's fair, the purpose of my study was to model the correlation between drought and various climate factors by using and comparing the predictive power of different machine learning algorithms, such as random forest, support vector machine, decision tree, and multiple factor regression. More than 25 gigabytes of geospatial data were extracted from the TerraClimate database to achieve the aim, and multiple statistical techniques were used for the analysis. Additionally, correlational and temporal models from 1995 to 2020 with prediction intervals were constructed for each climate variable, including wind speeds, temperature, and evapotranspiration.
Completing this project was a very interesting, and at times, a challenging experience. The project put a lot of my softer skills, such as time management and people skills, to the test. Therefore, completing and presenting it felt quite amazing.
