Hello everyone! My name is Maria Chzhen, and today I will be talking to you about a manga called D’R’S. I know, I don’t usually review mangas on my website, but yet here we are. Mangas are Japanese comic books that are usually drawn like Japanese characters are. So, you have to read them from right to left and from top to bottom. I got a bit confused in the beginning, but that’s actually how you read them.
D’R’S is unique because of its plot. It features a person that exists in real life, a Kazakhstani singer called Dimash Kudaibergen. Dimash is a person who has an exceptionally wide vocal range and was trained in both classical and contemporary music. He has performed songs in 12 languages. Yep, you heard me right, 12. You can check out his amazing songs on YouTube and Spotify!
The manga was created by Andrew Burmakin and released this year, in 2020. This is the first volume, and so far, I am pretty invested! Even if you aren’t a fan of Dimash, I still think you will find the plot really intriguing. Yuna, who is a Japanese art student, decides to create a painting but blacks out. Upon waking up, she sees a finished canvas in front of her, but here is the thing: she doesn’t remember creating this artwork! I am not going to spoil the manga for you but Yuna will have to indulge in a dangerous adventure for answers, mysterious visions, and the search for new dimensions.
I really like the style and the design of this manga. Whichever page you open, you will see amazing, detailed illustrations. Personally, seeing some of them sent shivers across my body! It’s amazing to see how much effort went into creating the manga, and the end result that turned out to be so great.
D’R’S has an official website Dimashmanga.com. You can purchase the manga in 8 languages here, find out about the work process of the team, purchase merch and just stay updated!
