We were all kids once who believed in magic. But what happens to this world full of charm when we grow up? It starts to drift away and get replaced by the new world technology slowly. The movie that I will be reviewing today is called "Onward," which takes place in a land filled with magic and sorcery.
The movie starts with a boy named Ian, who is turning 16. He made a list of what to do throughout the day to boost his confidence but failed at all of them. He gets a birthday gift from his dad, who passed away before he was born. The birthday present consisted of a wand and a crystal, with a spell to bring Ian's father back for one day, before sunset. Ian's brother, Barley, to whom magic and how people used it was fascinating, tried to use the wand and crystal to bring back his dad, but fails. But when Ian tries it, and it works, he gets back his dad! Well, sort of. The 16-year-old was only able to bring back the bottom half of his dad. Still, Ian is determined to meet his dad before he can't anymore finally, but there's a problem.
The crystal got destroyed, and they can't perform the spell without it. As they completed the magic, it was sunset. The clock started to tick, and the brothers only had 24 hours before the next evening. The spell will break by the next sunset, and the boys won't be able to see their dad. I am a huge Pixar fan, and I enjoyed the film. This movie was about magic, confidence and trying new things, even when you are not ready to try new things because nobody is ever ready! Ian realizes that although he didn't have his dad, he had his big brother, the person who was there for him and looked out for him is entire life. This proves that you don't need to have a biological dad to have a father figure.
The quality of the animation was gorgeous! I loved how the characters had blue skin and blue hair. Studio Pixar is known for its highly-intellectual movies with deep meaning, and this was just another example of such a brilliant film. The timing of the movie's release was unlucky because it coincided with the pandemic-related lockdown. But you can still watch the film on Disney+!
