Projects

Throughout high school and into university, I have completed numerous projects relating to topics in machine learning, mathematics, and environmental science. These projects hold a special place in my heart and have taught me invaluable lessons on perseverance, problem solving, and time management. The hours spent working on these projects were some of the happiest hours of my life.

Viral Dynamics: Modeling the Spread of Internet Fame with Differential Equations and the SIR Model

The spread of a video shares similarities with the spread of a disease. We found that mathematical epidemiological models can help to predict how fast and far a video could spread, given certain assumptions and parameters, in a similar way it predicts the spread of a disease in a population.

About this project: I completed this project as part of the Math Mentorship Program at the University of Toronto as a student researcher and mentee. We conducted research with a Ph.D. student on the SIR model and its implementation for investigating how videos go viral. The project was one of the five (out of 17) to get selected for presentation at the Canadian Undergraduate Mathematics Conference 2023.

About the program: "The Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto is proud to offer a mentorship program pairing high school students interested in the field of mathematics study and research, with graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty in the field. Students will be working on a math research project of their interests under the guidance of their mentor."

Comparison of regression algorithms for multivariable drought analysis

The purpose of my project is to compare the performance of machine learning algorithms for analyzing droughts in various areas around the world and quantifying the correlation between drought and various factors, including wind speeds, evapotranspiration, precipitation, soil moisture, minimum and maximum temperature, vapour pressure, and CO2 emissions.

Multiple factor regression analysis of vegetation changes and land degradation in drylands

The purpose of the study is to quantify the effect of various factors, including drought, precipitation, CO2 emissions, forest area, and electrical energy consumption, on the vegetation cover of various regions using multiple factor regression and identify measures that humans can take to increase the vegetation cover.

How Do Sleep Positions Affect Dreams In Teenagers?

The purpose of our study was to find the correlation between sleep positions and subjective dream quality in teenagers. We did so by creating a Google Form survey inquiring about sleep habits and sleep positions, collecting data from people aged 13-19, and identifying factors that could affect subjective dream quality in certain sleep positions.

Marangoni effect in liquid environments

Purpose: To study and measure the duration of the Marangoni effect by observing it, changing the fat content of milk and identifying factors that affect the duration of the Marangoni effect. The Marangoni effect is a flow formed in a liquid because of surface tension. The flow moves from the points of lower level of surface tension to the points of higher level. The effect was first discovered by a scientist James Thomson in 1855, but was called after an Italian scientist Karlo Marangoni who studied the effect a decade later.

Courses

I've independently completed various online courses, honing technical skills, fostering creative problem-solving, and fueling my innate curiosity.

alm001: A-level Mathematics for Year 12 - Course 1: Algebraic Methods, Graphs and Applied Mathematics Methods - Imperial University

This is the first part of a longer A-level Mathematics course. I took this course to prepare myself for school Maths mainly. There were several new topics in it that I haven't studied before. The course was sort of challenging to me because at the time, I felt really out of shape in a "mathematical" way.

AESTHINT15: Rhetoric: The Art of Persuasive Writing and Public Speaking - Harvard University

I took this "Persuasive Writing and Public Speaking" course by Harvard out of curiousity, and it didn't disappoint! I have used lots advice from this course for my personal life, and overall, many people could find it useful.

AdvPHY1x: AP Physics 1 - Rice University

This course was pretty difficult to complete because this was my first experience with Physics and I didn't have a teacher that could help me to overcome obstacles. I spent a lot of time on the course, and in the end, I got 85% on it (not that high but it was earned with hard work).

Academic and Business Writing - UC Berkeley

I took this course out of my interest and curiosity for writing. It has been a unique experience because this is the first time I took a course that wasn't related to Computer Science, Math or problem solving. It was still a lot of fun! Thank you, Berkeley.

Introduction to Computer Science and Programming Using Python - MIT

This was a tough course for me. I learned to think in a computational way, and 6.001x really showed me that programming is all about solving problems. Main idea: shorter code = better code.
