We are all different: from our appearances and our tastes to our personalities. But what if our differences are what gets people to come together and find another family? This family understands you and entertains people alongside you. "The Greatest Showman" is a musical that shows that you are not alone. With that being said, does it live up to the hype?
"The Greatest Showman" is about a man called P.T Barnum, who grew up as a poor servant in a lavish house. Growing up, Barnum always wanted to become a magician. He would imagine himself becoming a rich man and being a showman. When Barnum finally grew up, he married the woman he loved. To realize his childhood's dream, Barnum got together a group of people to perform for the world. These people were different, weren't like most people, and would have been considered freaks in the world outside of the circus.
P.T. Barnum managed to become a very successful showman in a remarkably short time. Hundreds of people would come and watch his shows regularly. At one point, the successful showman got an invitation from the Queen of England herself! Nothing predicted a downfall.
But after the fame gets to P.T Barnum's head, he finds himself in a bit of a struggle. His wife and kids leave him, and his circus building (where he and the performers performed) burns down. Even when that all happens, the people he brought together tell him that if it weren't for him, they wouldn't have found people like them. They wouldn't have found their family. Their words encourage P.T Barnum, who goes back out in the world and tries to make things right.
The cast was excellent - Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. Michael Gracey directed the 2017 American musical drama based on biographical events.
Overall, this was a fantastic movie. It's one of my the best movies that I have ever seen, from the excellent storytelling and the catchy songs to sing along with to getting emotional about the treatment that the characters endured before the main events occurred. "The Greatest Showman" shows that you are not alone and that there are people in the world who are just like you. It teaches that it's ok just to be yourself, no matter what.
