Hello everyone, today I am going to talk and give my opinion about the first book in a book series, Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. I had heard about this book multiple times. Still, I didn't start reading it until a family member had recommended it to me. I decided I would read it and see for myself if it would live up to its expectations. I hope you enjoy it.
A brief description of the book: Percy Jackson is a boy from New York who grew up very poor. He never met his father. Instead, Percy had a physically and mentally abusive, smelly stepfather, Gabe Ugliano, and a hardworking, kind mother called Sally Jackson. He also had a best friend named Grover, who was secretly actually a magical Greek woodland creature.
In grade 6, he gets attacked by a monster and ends up at a camp called Camp Half Blood. This camp is for Greek demigods! There, he meets and befriends Annabeth, a strong and determined daughter of Athena. He then finds out who his godly father is (I'll leave that for you to find out), and things start turning around for Percy.
Then, he is asked to go on a quest to the Underworld to get back a stolen item of the gods, with Grover and Annabeth as his partners. But since there are so many other demigods in the camp, why does it have to be him specifically? Well, that is because Zeus, the almighty King of Gods, believes that it was him who stole it. Percy must bring back the stolen item, and try not to die on the way.
Overall, I believe this is a fantastic book. Throughout the book, you get to meet so many incredible, bright characters that you learn a lot about. You get to know about their backstories, learn more about Percy and his life with his mom. You also learn a lot about ancient Greek mythology and meet a lot of Greek creatures and monsters along the way. There are lots of moments in this book that make you laugh and moments that can make you feel for the characters. It is a book that takes you into another world and gets you invested in the story. I found it so hard to put the book down! This book is for children, but I confidently believe people of all ages can read the book, especially those who love action, fantasy, and a whole lot of exciting adventures!
