The Rain Man... Hmm, where do I even begin? The Rain Man is a 1989 movie that won 18 nominations, some of which including: BAFTA Award for Best Editing 1990, Golden Globe Award for best screenplay, Academy Award for best production, Best Actor in a leading role, Golden Bear and Academy Award for best Music. It's producer was Mark Johnson and the director was Barry Levinson. The main roles were played by Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. As it also happens to be, the movie has a message and not that many movies have a message. But before we talk about it, let me tell you what the plot is about.
The main characters are 2 brothers - Charlie and Raymond Babbitt. Charlie Babbitt is a successful businessman who sells cars. He has some problems in his business and might go bankrupt. When his dad dies, Charlie goes to the funeral. They became estranged when Charlie took the dad's car and went to jail for 2 days for this. They never talked ever since. As I was saying, Charlie came to his dad's funeral to also hear the will. But there was a surprise in the will - his dad left his 3 million dollar house and cash to Wallbrook, a mental facility. When Charlie visits them and waits for an explanation, he sees a man that knows everything about him like his car, what the colours of the seats used to be and the address.
That is Raymond Babbitt, a brother Charlie never knew he had. Turns out, Raymond has a high-functioning autism. That means he is very limited in most areas of mind but rarely gifted in others. Charlie kidnaps his own brothers to *kind of* hold him hostage until the facility gives him his half of the will - 1.5 million dollars. Charlie doesn't like his own brother and considers him annoying until they make a connection and get a deep, brotherly feeling towards each other.
This movie is tragic comedy. Tragic - for obvious reasons. It is heartbreaking for a person to find out about this. Comedy - well, there were actually some very funny moments in the movie. Yeah, this is a movie I can rewatch quite a lot of times and just get more and more of other food for thought.
