The Mystery of Three Quarters is a book that was written by Sophie Hannah. Though it says Agatha Christie on the cover, Sophie Hannah has done it just to seek attention for herself. That is what a hater would say. Of course, Sophie Hannah put Agatha Christie's name on the cover lawfully and her intentions were good. But we are here to talk about the book itself and what it has to offer to us. Pretty much everything from Christie was borrowed by Sophie Hannah. But I do not really mind, because to me the plot was quite powerfully created. Of course, there probably won't be a second Agatha Christie, but Sophie Hannah still tried to recreate the Universe and all the characters. I would say she was not that close to Christie's style. In some ways, it is not as good as Christie’s style, no doubt about that. Obviously, it is a good thing in some ways. For example, Hannah developed her own style that is really peculiar. I mean, I read a lot of parts of the book in big chunks of pages. Second of all, me having read only one book of hers before called Keep Her Safe, I find her writing amusing. It keeps me on hook. But let me talk about the plot of the book right now. Hercule Poirot gets visitors. Multiple visitors! Every visitor says, rather shouts and acts crazy, that Poirot accused them of killing a man called Barnabas Pandy. 4 people accused Poirot of writing a letter that accused themselves! This is crazy! Now the famous Belgian detective has to find out who Barnabas Pandy was, where he lived, if he died and if the man existed at all. When Poirot finally did find out that Pandy was a real man that actually died because he drowned in his bathtub, there were many things to be considered such as:
1. Did Barnabas Pandy die of natural causes? The man was 94 years old after all.
2. If he did not, who was responsible for his death?
3. If he did, then who was the sender of the letters and why would that person accuse anybody? Especially of murder?
As Hercule Poirot was saying, there were too many details to be taken into account. I think Sophie Hannah did a good job on this book. I have an interesting fact up my sleeve. Did you know that Sophie Hannah was born on the exact same day and the same year as Elon Musk? On the 28th of June, 1971.
