The Gift 2015

Just Because You're Done With The Past Doesn't Mean The Past Is Done With You.

The Gift is a psycho thriller that will make you think about itself many more times. It is about revenge and intense moments that you might not understand at once. It reminds me of the Killing of a Sacred Deer, because there is a guy and a family that is clearly not comfortable with him. But while The Killing of a Sacred Deer is absolutely fiction, The Gift could happen in theory.

Before we talk about the plot, let us talk about the actors. The actors were Joel Edgertone, who was also a producer and wrote the screenplay, Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall as 3 main characters. The movie was produced in 2015.

Here is the plot: Robyn and her husband Simon move in their house in California. They meet an acquaintance from Simon's past - his ex-classmate Gordo. Good old memories, you know... But everything is not so simple. Who is Gordo? How is he related to Simon? What is going on between those two? Those were the questions I asked during the first half of the movie. I got some answers, but every moment in this movie also means a new perspective. Gordo also leaves some gifts for the couple, invites them over for dinner and is generally nice. Maybe, even too nice. For the second half I got some other questions. Who is Simon? How is he related to Gordo? We, the viewers and Robyn, Simon's wife, are only getting started on understanding Simon. And finding out what Gordo's past is one of the only ways to know and understand who Simon is.

This is an elaborate story of revenge and how to be good at it. Unfortunately, I cannot really tell you more about the plot, though I would love to do that, because many important plot points would be given away. Though I can bravely say that The Gift made me scream a few times of fear. But it is not a horror movie, it is just a psycho thriller, you know, nothing serious, hehe.
