Cafe De Flore movie review

Cafe De Flore 2011

Cafe De Flore was made in 2011 and the setting is in Montreal. Fun fact: I went to Montreal real recently. It was fun. Anyways, the movie was directed and written by Jean-Mark Vallee. The producer was Crazy Films, which is totally understandable, this film is in fact crazy. Of course, I had to take some time before I understood how all the events in the film are connected. I mean, I read the synopsis. That did not prevent me from asking questions all throughout the movie. I hope I am intriguing enough for you right now. Time for the plot!

There are 2 plot lines that go in parallel. One storyline is set in Paris, 1969, and another storyline is set in 2011, Montreal. About the storyline that occured in 1969: Jacqueline is raising her kid Laurent that has a Down syndrome. She wants him to be normal and does everything for him to become a kid, so that he is not considered "special" in our society. Somewhere there she crosses the line as a parent. Laurent finds himself a crush and Jacqueline cannot deal with it like an adequate human being.

In 2011, the different storyline, Carole is going through a breakup with her husband Antoine. They lived together for 20 years and had 2 kids but Antoine left her for a beautiful young woman Rose. Carole is close to suicide when she finds out how these 2 stories are connected... and how she can help prevent what happened last time. I don't even know what I should say to you about this movie. It is so crazy! I mean, why is it like that? I watched a movie before, something similar to this. It also has some cuts randomly put together. For people that are not ready to watch something confusing that needs brainwork for understanding, please do not watch the movie! It is not really easy to understand it by just watching it. Do not worry guys, the film is still worth watching. There is a lot of wise messages there. For example, we can see what the mothers of people with the Down syndrome feel, what love is and why you should sometimes let go of your beloved people. It makes you think, you know? It is one of the craziest, yet one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen.
