Today, I am going to talk about a movie called "1917". It is a 2019 movie that is being nominated for 10 Oscars!
What is the plot of this award-winning movie? As you have probably understood, the action takes place in 1917, during the First World War. The location is the Western Front. Throughout the film, we only follow 2 soldiers called Blake and Schofield. I would also like to say that I really liked the way the movie followed these 2 soldiers at all times. If you have watched the movie, you might have noticed that the scene never changes. There are cuts, surely, but at all times we are at the same location as our main characters. This is purposeful, of course. I think the goal was to create one narrative and focus on it, make the viewers bond with the characters.
Anyways, Scholfield and Blake have a mission. They need to get an urgent message to a regiment. If they don't, the regiment will walk into the enemy's trap, and 1600 men will lose their lives! What adds even more urgency to the situation is the fact that Blake's brother is in that regiment. But to get to the regiment, the soldiers need to go through the enemy territory. In the daylight. This is a very dangerous journey with a time limit of 8 hours. Will Schofield and Blake be able to deliver the message fast enough? Or will fate be faster and take the lives of 1600 people? That is for you to find out. I already did.
I would also like to comment on how the writers wrote the characters of Blake and Schofield, and even the story itself. It's pretty genius, if you think about it. I mean, outside of the fact that Blake has a family, we don't really delve into either of the main characters. What do you know about them except their names and their mission? The film doesn't even tell about the attackers. Unless you already studied World War 1, you wouldn't really even know who the enemies were.
The plot is very simple. Although the movie is intense, and I would scream at very nerve-wracking moments, the plot still is very simple. To be honest, this is one of the only movies that I would allow to not have much of a story and morale.
The actors that played the main characters were Dean-Charles Chapman, George MacKay and Daniel Mays. The director was Sam Mendes.
