This is the book review of The Spire by William Golding. It was written in 1964 and is considered a very deep book. Also, I heard that during that time Golding lived in Salisbury and that this book was his representation of what happened in Salisbury. I heard this was all loosely based on true events.
The main character is a man called Dean Jocelin. He has a vision that God wants him to build a spire for the church. A 400-feet (121m in metric system) tall spire. Obviously, there would be no problem with that if not for 1 thing - the church he wants to build it on has very weak earth under it. The church would be destroyed if the spire were to be made.
This was a very difficult book for me. I am not mature enough for it (maybe not even smart enough, who knows?). Based on that, I can't really even give it a proper rating. Some moments were unclear to me from the beginning and I actually thought that maybe the man was so crazy that I couldn't even understand him. I would give the book 4 stars but again, I didn't really understand the book.
