My Brilliant Friend

This article is about the book called My Brilliant Friend. Just to clarify, this book is fiction. The author of the book is Elena Ferrante. She is one of the main characters. She was Lenuccia and the story is told from her point of view. The plot itself tells us about Elena and her friend, Lila. From the age of 5 to the age of 16. Both of these girls grow up in Naples, a little village in Italy. They are both from poor families. They are both excellent in junior school, Lila is even far beyond excellent. But Lila cannot afford to go to Middle School while Elena can. This is not a spoiler, right? Oops, it is on page 80. Sorry, guys! Anyways, you will read about it more. It is just the way it is. And you will see, Elena and Lila were born in the same place, had the same childhood, were not rich and had many things in common. And yet, they have a very different life. They choose absolutely different paths. How come? Well, that's what you gotta find out.

I liked the book because the characters there were not flat, as it is called. They were not absolutely smart, or absolutely stupid. They were not absolutely evil, or absolutely kind. In one situation you can see the kindness of one person, but in another he or she can act in an absolutely different, unpredictable way. One thing I also understood is that no matter what, the person should study continually. If one stops studying, he becomes a fool. Maybe, he will be kind, pretty, rich, generous with very good manners. But he will be a fool, perhaps even without realizing it himself. It is kind of difficult to talk about it without me sounding like a person who gets inspired just for one moment and then forgets it. Read the book, it really is worth it.

Edit from 2 months later: it is Wednesday, January 16, 2019. During these 2 months I realized quite a lot of things and thanks to My Brilliant Friend, my values are now a lot different. I finally understand why the power of mind is more important than how the person looks; why it is important to not be an empty person and I've got the idea of how not to be one. This really is a great motivational book. That is why everyone should read it.
