This article is about the 1996 movie called Primal Fear starring Richard Gere and Edward Norton. If you watch the movie, you will understand why it is considered one of the best movies that Richard Gere ever starred in. Edward Norton was a very good actor too, and not many actors can play people like him, especially after you know it was his first time ever playing on screen. The director was Gregory Hoblit. The producer was Gary Lucchesi.
Archbishop is brutally murdered. He has no fingers when found dead, no eyes and is all savagely dismembered and covered in his own blood. Near the crime scene, the police finds a teenage boy called Aaron. He is covered in blood and almost runs away. Because the archbishop is a very famous person in the city, all the TVs and news are full of live-streams from the event. That is where we see Richard Gere playing as Marty, the lawyer. He is a very good lawyer, he knows about that and he usually does the job either for money, or for prestige.
So he takes Aaron's and the archbishop's case. He believes in the good in the people, and that many very good men did very bad things in life. That is very optimistic, too optimistic for a lawyer, in my opinion, but that is the way Marty takes life. So he and us firmly believe that Aaron is innocent.
But not everything is that simple. In the court, nobody wants to believe Marty and Aaron. Everything becomes more complex with time as Marty finds out in the middle of the whole process that Aaron has Multiple Person Disorder. It is when you have many personalities in your head that take your body over. It is difficult to explain because I don't have it. It is very rare and it is still an unproven theory that something like this can exist. Usually it happens because of abuse from someone in the childhood, a lot of pressure or loneliness. Their personality starts to split in half and it is like 2 people with different mentalities in one body. It is very interesting to research.
So Aaron has it. Or at least we think until the end that he has it. It really is worth seeing how much the lawyer cares about winning this case. He goes through everything and everywhere he can find the information. Many dark secrets of the archbishop and important people in the city are revealed to the public, many things are too dark for even me to talk about. Looking at all this, you can find many motives for Aaron to kill the archbishop.
I don't want to spoil the ending though I really can't resist the wish to do so. Before I say anything else about this most unpredictable ever movie ending, I want to tell you what the title means. Primal fear is the fear that comes deeply from our instincts. Fear of being lied to and representing themselves in a wrong way that could possibly lead to loss of ego. That is a hint, guys.
Overall, I have had very good time watching the movie and many best movies like Green Mile, Misery, The Shawshank Redemption and this one, Primal Fear, are very good movies from 1990s. You should keep an eye on the 1990s movies, they are really good.
